Re: Potential bug in ROMS perfect restart

Thanks Katie.

I was using an older version of ROMS. I upgraded to version 766 and my problems dissapeared. So far, the fix seems to be working correctly.

Thanks.

Re: Potential bug in ROMS perfect restart

Do you know if this problem has been fixed? I'm having problems with a restart using WET_DRY and PERFECT_RESTART. And I want to know if the problem commented here is causing this anomaly. Potential temperatures are going down to ZERO values in the very first time step after restarting. This is ...

Re: Grid cell volume

Can Hz be saved in the history files?
Or is set_depth function the only way to obtain it for postprocessing?

Many thanks.

Re: Instabilities with SWAN_COUPLING and WET_DRY together

Dear drews, Do you know if ROMS incorporated the stability procedure from COAWST? I'm curious about it. I'm suffering some blow-ups myself with ROMS and I do not know if I should ask Prof. John Warner access to his ROMS-COAWST. a) Do you know what was the main difference that made COAWST ran ...

Re: How to generate and use composite grids?

Ok. Thank you very much Prof. Arango. Here I'm just showing the results of the 'whole' grid dogbone, 'refined' grid dogbone and 'composite' grid dogbone obtained with my modifications to contact.m and ROMS 758. Please consider the problems shown here while tackling the issues mentioned in this ...

Re: How to generate and use composite grids?

OK. I found a possible solution for the out-of-range values when computing the interpolation weights, but this still needs to be revised by ROMS developers. As stated above, indexes are becoming 0, or exceeding the limits of arrays. The modifications I suggest are described below: 0) qr is an ...

Is OUT_DOUBLE strictly necessary when using PERFECT_RESTART?

I definetively want to use PERFECT_RESTART for the continuation of my simulations, but I also would like to save some space from the history files. What I understand from the PERFECT_RESTART concept is that ROMS saves all the necessary information into the restart file. And I guess that this ...

Re: How to generate and use composite grids?

OK. I get it. Then, I will start working to build a full-domain refined grid. And start from there for building the composite-nested-coarse grid sequence (from fine to coarse). This will take some time and, hopefully, in the meantime, the solution for the bug in "contact.m" interpolation-weights can ...

Re: Potential bug in ROMS perfect restart

I'm facing a similar problem here, although I'm not using perfect restart but a normal restart (many times) from the *rst.nc files. But I found that ROMS BLOWS UP WHEN RESTARTING MANY TIMES in a row!!! And does not blows up when ran continuously! Due to a restricted allocation run-time in our ...

Re: Test cases failing to compile in ROMS 3.7

The modifications above were neccesary for the compilation, But after running the case it was not giving the right results: Basically nothing was happening, i.e. there was no plume at all! Comparing against ROMS 3.6 (build 670) two important lines were missing again in the ana_psource.h file: in the ...

Test case riverplume2 fails to compile in ROMS V3.7 (build 737), and I guess that many other test cases may be in the same situation as this 'first' case I have tried after upgrading to ROMS 3.7 has a lot of typing mistakes!! Please, can you perform a check of all the test cases in the ROMS ...

Re: WET_DRY and AVERAGES_DETIDE options fail to compile toge

I have just downloaded ROMS 3.7 revision 737 (today 11 August 2014) and the compilation problem using WET_DRY and AVERAGES_DETIDE options together has not been solved. The solution is very simple: 1)Edit the file set_avg.F 2)Add the usage of "mod_grid" module in the "set_detide_tile" subroutine as ...

Re: Why floats solution behave with anti-parallel speed-up?

So this swipe along all the floats is done every time step? Clearly this is not optimal and is damaging the parallel execution! I would have thought this to be done only once (at the first time step) in order to 'sieve' the particle information and put it into the corresponding partition: all those ...

Why floats solution behave with anti-parallel speed-up?

Hello ROMS experts, I have the feeling that the behaviour I have seen for the solution of floats in parallel is not normal, so that is why I'm posting it as a bug. Below, I'm giving a detailed explanation hoping it to be clear enough. My questions are numbered as 1) and 2) in the text below. My ...

Test case: floats (flt_test) 2D fails to run

The 2D test case for floats fails to run. It gives an out of bounds error for the parameter: LEVBFRC == 2 When I turn It to LEVBFRC == 1 it runs, but blows up after 9 time steps! It is not being easy to set the 2D case to run. I believe some changes in the configuration files should be done for the ...

Re: WET_DRY and AVERAGES_DETIDE options fail to compile toge

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the second problem had to do with the forcing file as suggested by Kate and by Wilkin here: https://www.myroms.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1370 In my case I also needed to add the dimensions xi_u, eta_u, xi_v and eta_v which were not being included in my previous ...

WET_DRY and AVERAGES_DETIDE options fail to compile together

I have been running a WET_DRY case for a while but, when I tried to use AVERAGES_DETIDE option, the compiler complained about the GRID structure in the file set_avg.f90 within the subroutine set_detide_tile sending me several error messages. I took a look into the file ~ROMS/Nonlinear/set_avg.F and ...

Dear Prof. Signell,

Thanks a lot for all your shared tools!

It would be nice if someone can update the wikiRoms page. Both, the svn repositories and the usage of read_srtm30plus are incorrect and mislead us.

Thanks a lot,
