Re: A blank slate guide to installing ROMS on Ubuntu Lucid L

Thanks for that information! I've attached a warning note that my "guide" is now obsolete (should have done so long ago).

Re: A blank slate guide to installing ROMS on Ubuntu Lucid L

Just a quick note - that post is, unfortunately, fairly out of date now. I'll try to update it sometime soon. Just a thought for general consideration: is there anywhere we could store a virtual machine with a simple set-up people could use as a sample? I'd bet it would fit within a GB or so; it ...

Re: matlab error in tidal forcing

I suspect you're dealing with old code and a new MATLAB version. Try replacing finite with isfinite . < M A T L A B > Copyright 1984-2007 The MathWorks, Inc. A blank slate guide to installing ROMS on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx

Update (2014-07-30): This guide should is obsolete due to updates of both ROMS and Ubuntu. As my work is not currently ROMS-centered, I am unlikely to attempt this exercise again. There are several useful alternatives and active projects discussed in the comments below. Having lurked here for a few ...

Re: Issues with installing OCTANT on Mac OS X

I don't know if you've looked at these, but both MacPorts: http://www.macports.org/index.php and Fink: http://www.finkproject.org/index.php?phpLang=en provide linux-like package management behavior for Mac OS. Neither appears to directly provide octant, but both may give you a much more streamlined ...

I'm an American currently working at NURC in that department (as a result of one of Rich's previous posts on this list) and would also be happy to answer questions. Mac compile... which compiler?

1. What compiler?

2. Especially after you break out of the make, you should be able to execute:

Code: Select all

f90 -c -w -g nrutil.f90
alone. You might also be able to "gut" it and slowly rebuild it to see where the problem lies.

OpenMP broken?

This is somewhat consistent with my experience. I did get OpenMP BENCHMARK1 working at 4x4 on x86_64 Fedora Core 6, Intel Fortran, 4 cores, but consistently got segmentation faults with fewer tiles. I also ran into other issues that implied to me that the OpenMP code is broken. My suggestion would ...

NetCDF Toolbox

Go to: http://mexcdf.sourceforge.net Click Download at the top. Go to the end of the page. Click NetCDF Toolbox . Download the preferred format archive: netcdf_toolbox-1.0.12.* . Untar/zip it. Follow the instructions in the README. I believe it needs the mexcdf toolbox installed, so your first ...

Should anyone follow this, I was wrong about this: it looks like it may be a UNICOS specific module; hopefully a UNICOS NetCDF build will generate it? I did a lazy find and forget to look for typesize s .mod . typesizes.mod looks to be standard. Oh well, the NetCDF build info is still loosely ...

Installing NetCDF in userspace

Most recent and complete builds of NetCDF should include a netcdf.mod . Wherever you used to look for netcdf.h , check for netcdf.mod . Or, look for libnetcdf.a , then cd ../include and look there. I'm unfamiliar with typesize.mod , but none of my builds have yet required it; it looks like it may be ...

My experience with several post-compile segmentation faults (at approximately the same point you experienced) was with Fedora 6 and Intel 9 on a 64 bit machine. Said problems have abated with MPI since I've gone through one Intel upgrade and several kernel upgrades, but I don't believe I've gotten a ...

ifort and Fedora, again

I'm firing up a ROMS 2.2 build on Fedora core 6 using the latest 64 bit Intel release (IA64 9.1????; NetCDF 3.6.1 built to match). I've read the previous comments about ulimit, googled my way around the bash and Fedora archives, and have yet to find a proper solution to what I believe might be ...

Beta test of roms-2.2 with g95 on Darwin OSX 10.3.9 working

Briefly, using g95 from http://g95.sf.net with Netcdf 3.5.1-16 downloaded through Fink, I've managed to build and run the upwelling case in roms-2.2 on my powerbook. I'll try to clean up the process a bit more, but loosely speaking, the minor pitfalls were: cp Compiler/Linux-g95.mk Compiler/Darwin ...

G95 on Mac OS X

Has anyone out there successfully compiled ROMS on Mac OS X using either of the free (beer) g95 versions? I took a very abortive stab at it and got some errors mentioning the include statements. The two g95 projects I'm referring to are: http://hpc.sourceforge.net/ http://g95.sf.net/ I'm aware of ...

Scale factor in extract*.F (roms-2.1 and 2.2)

Not sure if this has been reported before, but the scale factor passed from write_sta.F to extract.F (roms-2.1), or extract_sta.F (roms-2.2), does not appear to be applied. In my application, history and station files contain predictably different values (O(10^3)) for bottom stress in the same ...
