SINGLE_PRECISION cpp option
Dear ROMS users, I am trying to set up a very high resolution model with grid size of around 40*2500*3000. The initial conditions file itself is around 25GB. So, I'm assuming the bare minimum output (with only primitive state variables written) will be of the same size. I'm facing memory as well as ...

surface boundary layer depth
Hi ROMS users I am saving Hsbl (depth of oceanic surface boundary layer) and Hbbl (depth of oceanic bottom boundary layer) variables in my average output file. I am using LMD vertical mixing scheme. When I plot Hsbl, I observe that some of the values (generally near river mouth) are positive and the ...

matlab toolbox boundary/initial file
Hello ROMS users I have been using matlab toolbox for making surface forcing files for a while now. Recently I've decided to use the toolbox for making boundary as well as initial conditions files. Upon inspection, I've decided to modify d_mercator2roms.m for making initial file and d_obc_mercator.m ...

Re: Interpolation of forcing data to ROMS grid
You mean I can have forcing fields on a grid that is larger than my ROMS application grid?kate wrote:The forcing extent has to be at least as big as the ROMS grid. I have my winds on a global grid, then I can use it on any ROMS grid.

Interpolation of forcing data to ROMS grid
Hi ROMS users I know that ROMS can interpolate the surface forcing data from a lat-lon grid onto a ROMS application grid, but I am confused as to the lat-lon extent of the forcing data that we can provide. For example, in my grid file, the corner latitudes and longitudes are LowerLeft(-30S,30E ...

Re: ROMS runtime error
Sorry for late reply but I communicated my cluster admin that there is no problem with the model. After resolving an issue of password less login, I tried to run the model and got the following as output in the log file. [mpiexec@tyrone-node16] HYD_pmcd_pmiserv_send_signal (./pm/pmiserv/pmiserv_cb.c ...

about nudging
Dear ROMS users I have a confusion regarding nudging in ROMS. In my application domain, I have 2 open boundaries. The boundary conditions file is prepared using climatology(WOA09) for salinity and temperature and there is no seperate climatology file. Open boundary conditions for salinity and ...

interpolation to roms grid
Hi ROMS users I'm running a simulation wherein I provide the surface forcing i.e. stresses, E-P and net heat flux directly (i.e. without using Bulk Formulae). I am providing them after interpolating from data sets to ROMS application grid. I was wondering if it is possible to provide these forcing ...

Re: vertical section of a roms output variable
Thank you very much rsignell. Although I am looking for a way to do it using filled contours (without having to interpolate the variable on a fixed set of depth values), your notebook is very helpful. Thanks a lot.

vertical section of a roms output variable
Hello ROMS users I am trying to show a vertical section of salinity (or any 3D or 4D variable) along a latitude using filled contours. Re: angle in grid file
Thank you very much kate and shchepet. I used to use roms_tools but the algorithm it uses to calculate the angle was difficult to understand. Now I use matlab routines by Arango, but couldn't find an algorithm to compute angle.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.

angle in grid file
Hi ROMS users In the ROMS grid file, the description of the variable 'angle' is the angle between XI-axis and EAST. My question is how do you determine this angle? If I want to run a simulation for Indian Ocean, how will I determine this angle? Also, should the units of angle be degrees or radians ...

One equation would obviously be the salinity transport equation. But river runoff does impart some momentum to ...

Re: bulk forcing
Thanks kate. But, would it not affect the calculation of other fluxes, since many of them depend on the Monin-Obukhov similarity parameters (e.g. Wstar)? I want only stresses to be zero while retaining all other surface forcings.

Hi ROMS users I am running a simulation of Bay of Bengal to study it's circulation. I need to run a case where the wind forcing is switched off. Hi ROMS users I have two questions. 1.If I define BULK_FLUXES and provide u and v winds, do I need to provide sustr and svstr i.e. surface U and V momentum stress values? 2. If I am not to define BULK_FULXES, QCORRECTION and SRELAXATION, will it work if I don't provide any SST and SSS data in ...
