Re: ROMS 2-way nesting

Unfortunately, I've not been able to solve the problem. I suspect it's due to boundary placement and bathymetry causing instabilities but as yet I'm still unable to run the model past spin up without it blowing up.

Re: ROMS 2-way nesting

The previous problem has been solved - I had neglected to include x_rho and y_rho etc in parent and child grid files. I now have a new problem - 18 hours into the model run I get a blow up. I've restarted and looked into the problem in more detail but I'm still at a bit of a loss. I seem to get ...

Re: ROMS 2-way nesting

Thank you for your response - Yes, the parent grid runs fine without nesting, I've switched to MIX_GEO_TS but I'm still getting a blow up. I'm not sure why I'm getting a DZ of 0.0 in the nested grid, I've tried a run with constant bathymetry everywhere and I get the same problem. I did discover some ...

ROMS 2-way nesting

I'm having some issues with a refined nesting application blow up and wonder if anyone could advise on a working method of grid creation using Matlab? Particularly regarding the correct procedure for setting the land mask in a refinement case? I've tried a few different methods each with low levels ...

Re: maybe a little bug in check_multifile.F?

I also have a problem when it comes to restarting my model (it worked before!): CHECK_MULTIFILE - Error while checking input Forcing file: gom_wind_era.nc last data time record available is for day: 2015-01-01 00:00:00.00 but data is needed to finish run until day: 2015-01-18 16:00:00.00 Found Error ...

Re: big jump occured when restart

Hello, I am running into a similar problem, I'm trying to run a model for a year, outputting both hourly data and daily averages. Because of the time-limit on the super computer I need to restart the model every three days which I do using NRREC == -1. I'm running with PERFECT_RESTART defined and ...

Re: Nesting Run Problem

Not sure quite what I did - possibly just reduced the spacing between the inputs - but this problem has now been solved. Thank you John for your input

Nesting Run Problem

Hello, I am trying to create a nested ROMS model with two telescopic refined grids. I have created the grids using the coarse2fine script with a Gfactor of 5 for both refined grids. I have also successfully created the contact.nc file using contact.m. I created my frc.nc file for the outer (coarse ...

Re: ROMS print output?

NTIMES == 41000 NHIS == 41000 I didn't use NO_HIS cpp_option, I do still get a history file where the input variables, h, x_rho etc are all output correctly but output variables are all empty. I'm using a restart file (NRREC = -1) - which does have values of u,v, ubar, vbar and zeta in it.. I'm ...

ROMS print output?

Hello - I'm having a problem in that my ROMS code compiles and runs but doesn't output any values for zeta/ubar/vbar etc - I'm wondering whether this is linked to the wrt_his.F file and whether there is a way of printing some output to the screen to narrow down where the code isn't working as it ...

Re: Compiling 'AVERAGES_TIDE'

Hi Stvyng,

1. I didn't have to define Hcount anywhere, you only need to define the U,V, elevation, temperature and salinity variables in your ocean.in file. Hcount is found after the model has run in your frc.nc file.

2. No I didn't

Re: Compiling 'AVERAGES_TIDE'

Hello, I am trying to use the AVERAGES_DETIDE function and it seems to be compiling okay but when the model has run y averages file only contains the following and is missing some variables i.e: hcount, cos_W and sin_W..I'm assuming I've just not switched something on? Help would be greatly ...

Re: About bottom friction

I've been trying to implement spatially varying qdrag2 however all my attempts seem to have culminated in the model blowing up at the second timestep: Essentially, I am trying to specify an area within the model where the quadratic drag coefficient is changed above that of the surrounding qdrag ...

Re: Zob

Thank you for the feedback - my ocean boundaries are quite large but the area I'm modelling should be dominated by the tidal function. I imagine I've simply neglected to switch something on in the code... I have been trying a range of Zob between 0.0002 and 0.006

Hello,

I've been experimenting with the Zob value and it appears that my ROMS set up does not seem to be particularly sensitive to it should this be the case?

3D ROMS calculations

Hello,

I'm struggling to find in the documentation exactly how the equations of motions are calculated in 3-dimensions, can anybody clarify this or point me in the right direction please?
