Dear community,
Could anyone direct me to a python script/package/project to write netcdf boundary files?
I have a bunch of depth-averaged velocity and sea surface elevation timeseries with which I would like to force a 3D ROMS simulation.
Thanks in advance,

Vortex Generator
Dear Community, Here is the thing. I would like to generate eddy/vortex-like structures which would travel in a simplified one-direction open-boundary flow. Firstly, does anyone have any idea if it is even possible to generate/impose such structures? Secondly, if it is indeed possible, do you have ...

Thank you all,
Here is an early christmas present, a python translation of John's tpxo8_to_roms package.
I've started testing it...so far, so good.

Re: TPXO to ROMS EXPRESS (tide extraction software)
Dear all, I realize this thread is rather old but I noticed this odd line in TPXO2ROMS_v4pt1.m: line 253: ncwrite(fnOut,'tide_Vphase',vamp) Should not it be "ncwrite(fnOut,'tide_Vphase',vpha)" rather? BTW, if some could direct me to a python package permitting similar functionality (i.e. creating ...

Forcing a turbulence spectrum
Dear community, I would like borrow your brains for a moment. Although I am guessing that this is out of ROMS' capability scope, I was wondering if there would be a way, given a small-enough time step and a large-enough number of iterations, to impose a turbulence spectrum (i.e. Von-Karman like ...

CoastGrid as grid generator
Greetings everyone, I was wondering if anyone has ever used CoastGrid to generate grid files (i.e. *.nc) !? I find CoastGrid interface pretty slick and straight forward and easy to use. it is fairly simple to generate the *.dat grid files yet I miss one major thing: how do you convert those files in ...

Re: Create a 3D mask as a new input file
Unfortunately, it is a bit more complex than that. During my PhD, I have developed a methodology for representing hydrodynamic effects induced by individual tidal current turbine within ROMS (i.e. http://mhk.pnnl.gov/wiki/images/1/1b/Roc_et_al._2013.pdf). Now I am investigating the hydrodynamics ...

Create a 3D mask as a new input file
Hi ROMS community, I would like to create something like a 3D mask which I could use as an input file in order to turn on and off my custom momentum and turbulence source terms. What is the best approach to achieve such thing? FYI, I have successfully implemented these custom source terms yet I use ...

Yeah I spotted this one as well however the problem doesn't come from that...but thank you anyway. I have actually cracked my problem though. In my input file (i.e. *.in) the open-boundary conditions for temperature and salinity were set to "Clamped" which imply to provide some values, analytic or ...

Hi Guys, I face troubles restarting a tidal flow simulation from an *_his.nc file. The model restart perfectly using the *_his.nc but the tidal forcing doesn't follow and damp to zero after the first steps. Notice that the tidal forcing is specified through the ana_fobc file as follow: fac=0.75_r8 ...

Hi everyone,
Is there a flag or an option allowing to choose between x-y and/or lon-lat coordinates for the output files, particularly the history files ?
Cheers,

Rule of thumb for vertical backgroung mixing coefficients
Hi folks,
I was wondering if there is any usual rule thumb (or related references) to parameterize a priori the set of background vertical mixing coefficients ( AKT_BAK, AKV_BAK, AKK_BAK and AKP_BAK) ?
Cheers,

Generic Length Scale Units
Hello everyone,
Quick question, does anyone know what are the units of gls in the output files ? m3/s2 as defined in varinfo.dat or the units of the length scale corresponding to the chosen two-equation turbulence model (e.g.: s-1 for k-omega, m2/s3 for k-epsilon, m3/s2 for k-kl,...) ?
Cheers

Absolutely spot-on, I'd like to add a source term on the RHS of the previously mention equation number 13, function of the squared production of turbulent kinetic energy.
So how do I proceed ?

Re: svn revision 408 - ana_initial error
Hi Kate,
Sorry for the lateness of my answer.
I have just checked my analytical.f90 and yes indeed, my ana_initial module is coming from here.
By the way no trace of ana_NLMinitial_tile in analytical.f90. I have got instead ana_initial_tile.
Thanks a lot for your help.
